ATLANTA, GA—Women of Flexo, a standing committee of FTA, is comprised of industry members who work to support and promote female engagement and increased visibility in the flexographic industry. The group regularly addresses leadership potential, skills enhancement and career development. Signature programs include semi-annual Lunch and Learn webinars, as well as more formal on-site meetings at FORUM and Fall Conference.
Its live events, like the one held March 1-2 at MacDermid Graphics Solutions’ Flexo Xperience Center, afford an opportunity to hear from industry members, discuss workplace challenges and network with colleagues.
March’s program consisted of six presentations, a facility tour, and a sponsored dinner and luncheon. Speaking in respective order were: Jennye Scott, who both opened and closed the program, Berry Global; Emily Kalshoven, MacDermid Graphics Solutions; Laura Wright, CSW Inc; Kiersten Borden, XSYS Global; and Catherine Haynes, All Printing Resources. Becky Bunch led the personalized tour.
The full roster of presentations, delivered in order by the speakers listed above, played out as follows: “Find Your True Colors,” “Recipes for Success,” “How to Deal with Difficult Personalities,” “Imposter Syndrome,” “How to Survive and Thrive in A Male-Dominated World,” and “Your Path to Upskilling.”
Common themes included the constant rendering of advice on how to enhance working relationships, communicate effectively, collaborate, show empathy, control emotions, act with integrity, reflect on efforts and track wins, say yes to new opportunities, let go of perfectionism, be present, be curious, be ready and trust yourself. Tips were also put forth on aligning personal and company goals, prioritizing tasks and standing willing to compromise as necessary.
A survey of attendees revealed widespread satisfaction with the event and a definite assignment of value to its content. Most attendees pointed to networking opportunities presented as the highlight of the two days. Others appreciated the sharing of ideas and truly open discussions. Direct quotes included, “This was amazing!” and “It was wonderful. Everything was nice and well organized.” Hopes for execution of more small group activities and workshops were expressed, as was the wish to “take a deeper dive into the flexo world.”
Sponsors for meals, promotional materials and other resources were FTA, APR, Berry Global, BOBST, CSW Inc, MacDermid Graphics Solutions and XSYS Global.
