Leader By Example

Jean Jackson, an FTA Hall of Fame member herself, remembered, “It was always a pleasure to work and be with Jack (and Mary). His passion and commitment for flexo printing and corrugated packaging help raise the level of print quality beyond what 30 years ago, we couldn’t even imagine. He worked well with his supplier partners to educate his customers, fellow suppliers and consumer product companies (CPCs). And, he was always willing to help the industry grow.”

She added, “He was always the person to keep balance press side, even when things were challenging. Working with the supplier team that was often at new press jobs or press tests, was always productive as we all learned to push the capabilities of the process. Along with his co-suppliers’ technical expertise. Jack, Carl Cecil and I had fun on the press and dinner discussions for the next day.”

Jackson said, “Personally, Jack and Mary have become dear friends, as they do to many industry partners and customers. It is always fun when I get together with them, as lots of moments are filled with laughter, wonderful updates on the family and grandchildren. They are always so happy to share their joy and adventures.”

Dave Horsman, spearheader of Project FOG as FORUM 2012 chair, exclaimed, “I am delighted that Jack is going to be inducted. He is definitely deserving—a real gentleman. …I will always remember him reaching out to me when I retired to wish me well and thank me for my contributions.”

Mark Mazur, another Hall of Fame member, stated, “I’ve known Jack since the early 1990s. He was always a wonderful person to deal with—very easy to talk to, very helpful and always interested in learning new things. He taught me all about corrugated. His dedication to advancing the process and elevating corrugated box printing to new levels, proved critical in showing flexo could do just as well, actually better than, offset and gravure.”

Paul Lancelle, yet another FTA Hall of Fame member, reflected, “Any time I think of Jack, the term ‘true gentleman’ immediately comes to mind. I’ve enjoyed every opportunity I’ve ever had to interact with him and work together on various projects and committees over the past couple decades. He is a sincerely gracious person and has always displayed the tendency to try and keep himself out of the spotlight and deflect credit and accolades toward others. That, itself, makes him truly fitting for this prestigious honor.

“Over the years, Jack has dedicated himself to supporting associations and industry initiatives, often ‘flying under the radar’ when it comes to receiving proper recognition for his time and talents,” Lancelle observed. “He has demonstrated himself as a real ‘leader by example’ and his calm and level-headed approach has served itself well in overcoming potential conflicts and just getting things done.”

Lancelle acknowledged, “He has certainly been an inspiration to me, and I hope that his influence has rubbed off on some of the people he has trained and mentored over the years, because this industry certainly needs more people like Jack Fulton.”
