Forty percent of the poll population has already, or has pledged to integrate, some form of digital print offering into their plants. Twenty-five percent indicated that kind of move is to be determined. Eighteen percent of plants that answered the query currently run flexo and digital presses/processes side by side and 7 percent presently operate at least one hybrid press. Ten percent of the audience expressed hesitancy when it came to taking on any form of digital capabilities.

Prevalent thinking now reveals 51 percent of active and engaged package printers view flexo and digital as complementary print processes. Another 11 percent see flexo and digital as “at times, complements; at other times, competitors.” Thirty-eight percent steadfastly identify digital as direct competition.

Of the plants participating in the poll that embrace both processes, average flexo market share was set at 72 percent, as compared to average digital market share of 28 percent.

Business Up

When comparing the two processes, 84 percent of the sample audience noted that flexo business was up more significantly, compared to just 16 percent who said digital business had definitively increased, moreso than flexo.
