Dan Canzoniero

BALTIMORE, MD—Dan Canzoniero, president & CEO of Baltimore-based Gamse Lithographing Co, a leading producer of high-quality product labels for companies in a wide range of industries, passed away suddenly on Nov. 28. He is succeeded as president & CEO of Gamse Lithographing by his son James “Jimmy” Canzoniero.

“My father was a visionary in many ways,” said Jimmy, “particularly regarding the long-term future of our company. An important part of that forward-thinking was succession planning. He and I worked closely over the past 10 years to ensure that I was well-versed in all aspects of the business and prepared to run the company in his absence. Unfortunately, that day arrived much sooner than we anticipated. I am very grateful that we have a strong board of directors, which is rare for a company of our size, and look forward to continuing to work with them to grow and move the company forward.”

Jimmy joined Gamse full time in 2008, but his employment history at Gamse goes all the way back to sweeping the plant floors and packing boxes in 1995. He most recently served as the company’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, covering all aspects of the business. He has held that position since 2014. Prior to that, he served as Gamse’s VP of finance & technology. He started and has continued to maintain primary responsibility for Gamse’s digital printing operation, which is the fastest growing area of the company. He is a 2002 graduate of Duke University, with a degree in political science and minor in economics. In addition, Jimmy earned a master’s degree in business administration with a concentration in finance from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business in 2008.

Dan began his career at Gamse in 1983, with the merger of Gamse and Creative Label, where he served as president. In 1986, he purchased part of Gamse Lithographing Co and purchased the remaining shares of the company in 1991. As part of his visionary outlook, he understood the importance of keeping pace with rapidly changing technologies and readily invested in equipment to keep Gamse an industry leader in both quality products and customer service. Gamse reports it is very proud of its many long-tenured employees and grateful for the support they will provide the company during this transition and continued success.
