MENTOR, OH—Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials has announced the introduction of TrueCut All-Temp Adhesive Technology, AT2550.
TrueCut All-Temp was developed to provide good room temperature and excellent cold temperature performance without sacrificing die cutting and stripping properties. AT2550 is purpose-built for paper facestocks and specially designed for shipping, weigh scale and warehouse and logistics applications.
“A common issue with many adhesives is that they are prone to adhesive transfer, where the sides of a roll of labels can become gummy with oozing adhesive,” said Michael LeRoy, product manager for Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials. “AT2550 not only provides superior cold temperature service range, but Avery Dennison engineers have reduced the rate of ooze by 20 to 30 percent.”
AT2550 is also repulpable; this means it is fully recyclable and enables full recyclability of the end packaging.
“AT2550 adhesive technology is a more responsible solution for thermal paper labeling,” said LeRoy. “This advance comes at a critical time for the packaging industry, which is dealing with both the explosion in online shopping (and shipping) as well as the increased importance to recycle more of that waste stream.”
AT2550 addresses issues created by many adhesives during the corrugated box recycling process. During processing, pressure-sensitive adhesives combined with recycled paper (stickies) can build up on equipment and cause defects in the final product paper. The cost of stickies to paper companies is estimated to be more than $700 million per year, according to Avery Dennison.
Fully repulpable, AT2550 meets the testing criteria of the Tag and Label Manufacturing Industry (TLMI) Recycling Compatible Adhesive LRP-2 Lab Test Protocol. These tests confirm that the adhesives meet key criteria of the recycling industry and ensures that AT2550 may be fully recycled at the label’s end life.
