CHARLOTTE, NCABX is pleased to announce its acquisition of the US flexible packaging converter business of Berry Global Group Inc. ABX is a manufacturer of co-extruded printed and laminated multilayer high barrier, flexible packaging films primarily for food applications, and this acquisition will bring scale, enhanced capabilities, an expanded product portfolio and substantial value creation initiatives to the new ABX platform, according to the company.

This combination creates a flexible packaging business of scale that has undergone a rebranding exercise and will operate under the ABX name going forward. Michelle Wilson, CCO of ABX, explained, “After in-depth market research and voice of customer insights, we have decided to move forward with the name ABX. Honoring its beginnings as Advanced Barrier Extrusions, this name retains ABX’s heritage and reputation in the marketplace, while making way for opportunistic growth via the acquisition of these divisions of Berry Global. The blue in the logo represents innovation and reliability, aligning with our accompanying tagline ‘Innovative Packaging Solutions.’ The blue swoosh on the “X” represents the business moving forward with a purpose, towards a common goal. We believe this name says we’re in it to bring ideas that help our customers win. We’re very excited about this step forward for the company, our employees and our customers.”

According to the company, ABX is the beneficiary of several consumer megatrends that are driving growth, including a shift in preference toward convenience and on-the-go lifestyles, clean labeling, increased spending on fresh foods, heightened focus on food safety, sustainability and brand and SKU proliferation. Larry Goldstein, CEO of ABX, stated, “ABX and the acquired facilities both have strong R&D cultures with proven track records of developing innovative new products—the combined business will continue to be a value-added partner to its customers going forward. We are excited to bring our expanded capabilities to both our existing customers and new customers in new markets and to work with them to create innovative packaging solutions.”

In addition to enhancing ABX’s geographic presence, the acquisition expands the end markets the business serves to include additional stable categories such as personal care and health care packaging. The combination provides an opportunity for significant synergies and creates a vertically integrated flexible packaging provider with multiple extrusion technologies, printing, laminating, bagging, coating, finishing and other niche packaging operations, according to the company.
