GIRONA, SpainComexi, a specialist in solutions for the flexible packaging industry, reports an increase of more than 50 percent in Slitting Business Unit sales in the last three years. Specifically during 2017, Comexi’s Slitting line has recorded a growth in its turnover, expanding its presence in markets such as the United States and the Middle East, according to the company.

“Our solutions are widely recognized in the current market,” says Comexi Slitting Brand Manager Albert Torrent, who, at the same time, adds that the results obtained during these past three years have “exceeded all expectations and forecasts.”

Specifically, its laser technology allows converters to differentiate themselves from the competition quickly and easily by providing a wide gamma of applications such as easy open, windows, micro-perforations or code insertion, according to the company. In this sense, the group has been expanding its laser system, offering new options of 40, 100 or 300 watts. “At the same time, our automation systems allow converters to increase their productivity exponentially. We are detecting that customers are increasingly interested in this equipment and, therefore, the market is moving towards this direction,” says Torrent.

Moreover, Torrent points out some of the main trends that have marked the slitting sector and the flexible packaging industry in recent years that Comexi has been able to respond to efficiently, thus enhancing the group’s growth, according to the company. “Currently, runs are becoming shorter and the explosion of new market niches has led to the appearance of personalized and differentiated products: containers that extend shelf life, which are more sustainable, ecological, easy to use and formed by more complex laminated structures,”explains Torrent. Therefore, as he adds, frequently converters bet on “high-quality equipment that provides the highest productivity and the ability to respond quickly to new market needs.”

Nowadays, this Business Unit provides a wide range of highly technological solutions and is led by Enric Carrera, its director since 2017. During last year, the group launched its latest development in this field: the Comexi S1 MS, designed for rigid or semi-rigid materials—nondeformable—and with large output reels.

The group also provides modern slitting and rewinding systems such as Comexi S1 DS, Comexi S2 DT or Comexi S-Turret. In this line, the company says it expects to grow as it has been in recent years  and will continue betting on cutting-edge technologies, expanding its product portfolio with new slitting, laser and automation solutions, and reinforcing its presence in Asia and Europe.
