GIRONA, Spain—Comexi, specialist in solutions for the flexible packaging printing and converting industry, launched its latest lamination technology: the Comexi ML2, a top-range laminator designed under two key concepts: versatility and the highest productivity.
“These are the pillars that best define this new laminator that, thanks to its ergonomic design, facilitates daily operations, maximizing production,” says Comexi Lamination Brand Manager Carles Rodríguez. “I like to call it the gadget machine, because it is full of new solutions that will delight operators.”
This laminator can work with solvent-based, water-based or solvent-free adhesives. It provides a wide range of lamination and coating options and works with materials up to 60.2 inces (1,530 millimeters) wide and at a speed of 1467.4 feet per minute (450 meters per minute). Also, it enables all kinds of coatings and applications such as cold seal, heat seal, ink or varnishes. It has five easily interchangeable technological trolleys—gravure with open chamber, gravure closed chamber, solventless, flexo GL and semi-flexo. At the same time, customers can configure the drying tunnel—6 or 9 meters with two or three independent zones.
Specifically, the design of the Comexi ML2 began in 2015 after the company detected an increasing demand for jobs with multiple solutions that required frequent changes. “This machine was designed to increase productivity; with this technology, changeovers can be done with the maximum speed and minimum waste,” emphasizes the Comexi Lamination Business Unit Director Albert Chicote. This laminator was designed with a high precision register control system to meet the highest quality demands of the market. At the same time, thanks to the motorization of the linear web guide and the Quick Front-Reverse Reading® system, job adjustments are meant to be made with maximum agility and speed.
It has three-roller NIP technology that allows applying a higher pressure at a lower point of contact, thus obtaining a uniform pressure across the lamination NIP, with a goal of offering the highest optical quality and reducing breakage or wrinkle generation.
On the other hand, the Comexi ML2 is equipped with other technologies that are meant to reduce downtimes. In this sense, it’s fitted with two panoramic screens with latest generation software and graphics, and a user-friendly touch design that facilitates its use and maximizes efficiency. While machine is working, it allows loading the next job, centralizes all peripheral equipment, save the parameters of all jobs reel to reel and a vast variety of other possibilities to maximize the performance, and also offers a fast coupling of technological trolleys and dosing sleeves.
