MENTOR, OH—Avery Dennison announced that Zing Zang, manufacturer of one of the fastest-growing bloody mary mixes in the US along with a line of other all-natural drink mixes, has completed the transition of its 32-oz. bloody mary mix bottle from glass to plastic featuring 25 percent post-recycled content and CleanFlake technology from Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials.
The decision to transition from glass to lightweight, unbreakable plastic polyethylene terephthalate (PET) for the bloody mary bottle provides Zing Zang customers with enhanced portability and durability while lowering the company’s packaging cost. With CleanFlake technology, the label separates cleanly from the bottle during the recycling process, enabling the recycled plastic to be used in new food-grade containers.
“Avery Dennison CleanFlake technology is helping us meet our goal of providing consumers with a more sustainable solution,” said Diane Fujimura, director of marketing at Zing Zang. “We were very pleased to find a solution that simplifies the recycling process for our customers. Thanks to the use of CleanFlake, consumers are instructed to simply rinse the bottle and replace the cap prior to recycling.”
The recommendation to use Avery Dennison CleanFlake technology was made by Pamco Label, a Resource Label Group company, based on Zing Zang’s sustainability objectives. “It’s important as a partner to really understand where the customer is headed with the brand and packaging,” said Kevin Frydryk, regional VP, sales and marketing at Resource Label Group. “With Zing Zang, that understanding came about through discussion about their rebranding and plans to replace glass with lightweight, unbreakable plastic.”
“We’re excited to see brands like Zing Zang adopting CleanFlake technology to simplify plastic recycling for their customers,” said Angel Harvey, a senior product manager at Avery Dennison Label and Packaging Materials. “CleanFlake is the world’s first adhesive that cleanly separates from plastic during the wash portion of the recycling process. By increasing the supply of recycled content, CleanFlake helps improve rPET yields and can help brands meet the growing demand for sustainable packaging materials.”
