FRANKLIN PARK, ILPrairie State Group, a printer specializing in flexible film, food grade packaging materials and pressure-sensitive labels, recently achieved the SQF Code Edition 8.0, an internationally recognized food safety standard from the Safe Quality Food (SQF) Institute. This is the seventh time PSG has achieved this food safety code for the manufacture of food packaging and quality.

The Safe Quality Food Program is a rigorous food safety and quality program that is recognized by retailers, brand owners and food service providers worldwide. According to the SQF Institute, its family of food safety and quality codes are designed to meet industry, customer and regulatory requirements for all sectors of the food supply chain.

The process for obtaining this certification involves risk assessment and prevention at all levels of a company’s operations, involving order entry, raw materials, production processes, handling and transportation and much more. It is all certified by a quality system that documents all activities to help achieve those results.

“We are and have been a leader in the area of food safety throughout the food packaging industry with our focus on printing and converting,” said Dan Doherty, executive VP of operations/principal at Prairie State Group.  “As early adopters of this highly regarded certification, we embraced the challenge and never looked back. We have been a resource for our clients as well and our industry as a whole. The need is there and it’s critical in the direct food contact packaging market.”
