ST. PAUL, MN—Founded in 1877, Smyth Companies, a leader in the printing and packaging industry, announced the celebration of their 140th anniversary this year, making it one of the oldest businesses in the state of Minnesota.

In honor of this historic milestone, Smyth will be hosting celebrations with their 550+ employees and special guests throughout the year at all nine of their facilities. The first of the celebrations took place at Smyth Headquarters in St. Paul with a visit from Mayor Chris Coleman, who declared June 13, 2017 to be Smyth Companies Day in the city of St. Paul.

Coleman praised Smyth Companies, which also has achieved FIRST Company Certification, and the Hickey family for their legacy, history and deep roots with the city, declaring Smyth an “ambassador to the city of St. Paul.” He thanked Smyth for providing jobs for more than a century, and for growing in environmentally responsible ways.

Coleman went on to commend Smyth for being “an exemplary corporate citizen and good neighbor since its founding, constantly giving back to the community, through its involvement in charitable activities, environmental initiatives and business leadership.” In addition to its community focus, Smyth has earned the exclusive Best Workplace in the Americas award for the last nine years, an award based on employee engagement, benefits and work-life balance.

John Hickey, CEO, also shared a heartfelt tribute with the Smyth employees: “In most cases we spend as much time with our associates as we do with our families. We are grateful to every employee who has ever worked for us, riding shotgun with us over the years, now nearly a century and a half. Thank you all very much.”
